Vern Powell & Matt Lybeck will be forging draft horse shoes and applying them to the horse. They will also offer some hands on instruction for anyone interested.

Lee Sackett & Don Tritz will be shoeing a Western Pleasure type horse and also offer hands on for those of you that request it.

Red Renchin will be demonstrating the glue on shoe process.

This is going to be an interesting and informative clinic. A great warm up for the spring shoeing season. All UMHA members are urged to attend and bring a non member friend and show them what we’re all about. Lunch will be provided.

On February 16, we will meet at Centaur Forge for our monthly meeting starting at 8:30 a.m. We will offer forging practice for everyday shoeing, as well as for certification. We will have coffee and donuts, and chili for lunch, so please join us if you're able.

We will have this meeting at Lyle Stoner's, beginning at 8:30 a.m., on January 12 (snow date would be January 19). We will be working on the ever difficult task of knife sharpening and demonstrating attaching snow rim pads, snowball pads, and drive-in studs. Your input is welcome at this half day clinic, when we will share tips and efficient methods for everyday shoeing.

Clinician: John McNerney Location: Centaur Forge City: Burlington, WI   "John McNerney is a graduate of the Colorado State Farrier's Apprenticeship Program and lives with his wife, Megan, in Platteville, Colorado. He is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and works with a variety of horses in his practice including those in dressage, jumping and 3-day eventing." (from the folks at Delta)

Our next forging practice will be on Saturday, February 17, at 9:00 a.m., at Lyle Stoner's shop. There will be coffee and donuts, followed by the forging of head stamps, drifts, and pritchels, and proper annealling of them.

After the meeting and clinic, we'll break for lunch and then work in the forges until about 3:00. If needed, Centaur Forge wiil provide the forge and anvil. Practice forge work with other UMHA members.

Dean works with the UW Madison clinic. He will be sharing his knowledge and giving us an update on the clinical and therapeutic shoeing he is doing in Madison.

This meeting was rescheduled to the 8th because of the blizzard. We discussed the by-laws and decided to forward them to an attorney for review which means we won't be voting on them in January.
The nominations for the January election have been made. You can cast your vote by mail using the enclosed ballot or bring it to the January meeting and vote in person. You can also vote for a last minute candidate by writing them in on the ballot.
