2012 Membership Dues
Dues are $45 per year. We'll be on hand to collect membership dues all day during the clinic, meetings, and elections. If you are unable to attend, or simply want to mail your dues in ahead of time, please use the association mailing address listed below. For new members who are considering joining UMHA, I am compiling a list of reasons to be an association member. The list is endless, starting with but not limited to the fellowship with other farriers that we help to provide, the Injured Farriers Fund that helps injured farrier in need, and the education derived from hiring clinicians and hosting clinics. All of the dues money goes toward these three goals.
2nd Annual Midwest Farrier Conference
From an e-mail dated Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from Madison Equine Clinic:
To all the local Farriers:
Please join us for the 2nd Annual Midwest Farrier Conference sponsored by the Lodi Veterinary Hospital. This year we decided to make the program a two day event. On Friday evening, November 11, we will have presentations and a dinner at Blue Mounds Equine Clinic. On Saturday, November 12, we will continue the program with demonstrations and discussions with Dean Johanningmeier.
The focus of this year's program will be hind end lameness. We would like to solicit interesting cases, so if you have a challenging hind limb case that you would like to submit please contact our office. To help defray the cost of this event, there will be a $40 fee for this two day event. We will be reserving hotel rooms in the Mt. Horeb area so please Save the Date and join us for this educational program!
More detailed information will follow, and if you know of any other farriers that may be interested in attending, please let us know and we will send information to them as well.
Sincerely,
Dave Kolb, DVM

AAEP/AFA Farrier Short Course - UW Madison
Coming September 17th
The vet student short-course offered at UW-Madison is looking for a few farriers to help demo horseshoe nailing, horseshoe removing, and hoof trimming. My understanding is the morning session is a lecture by one of the professors and also a slideshow presentation from an AFA Journeymen farrier. The course is free and there will be coffee and doughnuts.
The more farrier participation the better. Please RSVP (to Lowell Johnson @ 262-748-2448) as soon as possible and I will let you know if other farriers in your area are attending so you may carpool if desired. I helped with one of these a few years ago and it was a lot of fun and very informative.
